The Work
Each one, teach one
From the composer: Each one, teach one is a project that aims to push the boundaries of orchestral hierarchy by seeking to create more autonomy for individual players within the orchestra. I aim to involve musicians actively in the compositional process, fostering collaboration to enhance the creative experience. Having collaborated with an orchestra and the experienced improvisers in my ensemble “Composetheway,” I recognize the privilege of working with a dedicated community of musicians. This project becomes a convergence point for ideas, where my vision meets the collective talent and expertise of the ensemble.
Workshop ideas
- Bring seasoned improvisers to work with various sections of the orchestra to develop fluency in extemporaneous composition
- Scaffold that skill so musicians may begin to independently create and interact with each other
- Crystallize notation and possible documentation for future performances––reducing the time required to develop fluency
