Xinyuan Deng
Xinyuan Deng is a composer from Henan, China, whose work bridges Eastern musical traditions with Western classical forms. Her compositions craft dynamic and immersive soundscapes, reflecting her rich cultural heritage while embracing contemporary musical languages. Deng has collaborated with renowned ensembles, including Austria’s PHACE, the Rhythm Method Quartet, the Harbin Symphony Orchestra, and the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, showcasing a rich diversity of influences in her music.
In 2024, Deng collaborated with the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music to create Roaming Blooms, a mixed ensemble piece that explores themes of globalization and cultural exchange through Chinese traditional instruments. As a 2024 National Orchestral Institute + Festival (NOI+F) composer fellow, she premiered BAN-NA, a chamber orchestra work inspired by the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant dances of Xishuangbanna. Deng’s contributions to electronic music have also garnered acclaim, with her works featured at prestigious festivals, including Electronic Music Midwest (EMM), The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), and Click Fest.
Deng holds a Bachelor of Arts in Composition from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and a Master of Music in Composition from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Currently pursuing her Doctor of Music degree at Jacobs, she also teaches at the Jacobs Composition Academy, where she mentors and inspires the next generation of composers.
