Laura Pacheco
Laura Pacheco Nieto is a composer and singer from the city of Bogotá, Colombia. In 2017, she began her undergraduate studies in music with a major in composition at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. During her training process, she cultivated a broad interest in birds and the different aspects of ornithological study, which influences her creative and compositional process. In addition, the richness of Latin American culture and its traditions, especially from the Andean region, inspires certain musical elements in her compositions, such as rhythm and melody.
For eight years, she studied at the MISI Escuela de Teatro Musical, where she received comprehensive training in music, dance, and theater, and took part in various productions of the academy. This experience led to an interest in ballet and to composing for shows involving different art forms.
At the end of her studies, she received the Order of Academic Merit for outstanding academic performance during her undergraduate studies. Subsequently, she participated in the Tierra de Aves workshop organized by EARS Composers, with the support of the Vasto Ensemble and the Uniandino Ornithology Group. She has also completed a Diploma in Film Music Composition and an Orchestration Course at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
In 2022, she won first prize in the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra's Composition Prize for Women. In 2023, she was one of three winners of the Colombian National Symphony Orchestra's Platform 28 prize. Currently, she is one of the two composers who are part of the International Academy of Young Composers of the Paris Chamber Orchestra during its 2023-2025 edition.
