AMERICAN COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA is accepting applications
for Teaching Artists who are Composers

ACO is seeking exceptional Composer/Performer/Educators to work with our Education Director, Kevin James, and our dedicated team of Teaching Artists, working to develop the creative capabilities of middle school and high school students in New York City and beyond.

We are seeking a diverse cadre of candidates with the following attributes:

  • Extraordinary creativity
  • Engaged primarily in creative endeavors (multi-disciplinarians welcome)
  • Must love working with children. Education experience preferred
  • Not tied to boundaries in the expression of their creativity OR educational methodology 

Candidates should be available immediately.
Those hired will be required to participate in planning sessions, professional development and teaching assignments during the summer of ’21.
Teaching Artists are generally asked to take on 2-3 teaching assignments for the academic year (usually 2-5 services/week for 24-32 weeks + the possibility of summer classes). 

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) is dedicated to the creation, celebration, performance, and promotion of orchestral music by American composers. With commitment to diversity, disruption and discovery, ACO produces concerts, education programs and emerging composer development programs to foster a community of creators, audience, performers, collaborators, and funders.  

We strongly encourage applications from gender-marginalized, BIPOC, and disabled composers, in addition to composers from backgrounds currently underrepresented in the orchestra and education fields. 

All positions are Part Time

ACO Teaching Artists receive a standard scale of $75-$100/hr

    Dear Kevin James,

    Where is this position located? I am based in Southern California as professor of composition at CSUF- but also work in NYC area. As composer, director of bew music ensemble, educator, board member of Women’s philharmonic advocacy I am interested in this initiative for myself and also recommending students, alumni for this position.
