July 16 & 17, Denver, CO

Colorado Symphony New Music Readings

July 17 Readings are Free and Open to the Public, 10AM to 12:30PM Boettcher Concert Hall, Denver Performing Arts Complex

Four composers have been selected for the Colorado Symphony New Music Readings, which will be held July 16-17, 2009. Selected from 180 applicants, they are Yotam Haber, Angel Lam, Jeremy Podgursky, and Tim Sullivan. Conductors for the Readings will be Delta David Gier and Fergus Macleod, who is a conducting fellow at the Aspen Festival this summer. Mentor composers are ACO's Artistic Director Rober Beaser, Derek Bermel, and Roberto Sierra. Musicians from the orchestra will also serve as mentors.

Wang Jie Awarded 2009 Underwood Emerging
Composers Commission

ACO's annual roundup of the best and brightest emerging U.S. composers included a group of five incredibly talented and diverse young composers selected in a nationwide search.

Composer Wang JieComposer Wang Jie has been named the winner of the 2009 Emerging Composers Commission with her Symphony No. 1 (Awakening). The honor earns Wang Jie a $15,000 commission and a future performance by ACO's Orchestra Underground. She earned top honors at ACO's 18th annual Underwood New Music Readings held May 7 & 8 at Miller Theatre in NYC. Delta David Gier & José Serebrier conducted. Mentor composers were John Corigliano, Margaret Brouwer, Derek Bermel, and Robert Beaser.
